This Privacy Policy explains what information Neel's World (neelsworld.in) collects, why, and what your rights are. The short version: this site collects very little and shares nothing with third parties.
Who is responsible for this site
Neel's World is operated by Neel K, based in Assam, India. For privacy-related enquiries, use the contact page.
What data is collected
1. Server access logs
When you visit any page, the web server automatically records a standard access log entry containing:
- Your IP address
- The page requested and the date/time of the request
- Your browser's User-Agent string
- HTTP status code and bytes transferred
These logs are used solely for server security monitoring and diagnosing technical issues. They are not used for analytics, tracking, or profiling. Log entries are retained for a maximum of 30 days before being automatically overwritten.
Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) — server security and abuse prevention.
2. Contact form submissions
If you use the contact form, you voluntarily provide your name, email address, and message. This information is used only to respond to your enquiry and is not stored in any database, sold, or shared.
Legal basis (GDPR): Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — you actively submit the form. You may request deletion of your message at any time by contacting me directly.
3. Theme preference (localStorage)
If you use the dark/light mode toggle, your preference is saved to your browser's localStorage under the key nw-theme. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not transmitted to any server
- Is not a cookie and does not require consent under ePrivacy rules
- Can be cleared at any time via your browser settings
What is NOT collected
- No analytics or tracking scripts (no Google Analytics, no Matomo, no pixels)
- No advertising or remarketing cookies
- No fingerprinting
- No social media tracking widgets embedded on this site
Third-party services
This site loads no external resources. All fonts, stylesheets, scripts, and images are served from neelsworld.in itself. There are no CDN calls, no Google Fonts requests, and no third-party JavaScript.
External links on this site (e.g. YouTube, GitHub) lead to third-party websites with their own privacy policies. Neel's World has no control over what those sites collect.
Hosting
This site is hosted on Netlify (or AWS Lightsail, depending on deployment). Netlify's infrastructure may collect IP addresses and access logs as described in Netlify's Privacy Policy. Netlify is GDPR-compliant and processes data under Standard Contractual Clauses for EU transfers.
Your rights under GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data held about you
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction — request that processing be limited
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact me via the contact page. I will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13. No data is knowingly collected from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
